This stream, like all streams (practically) in the Southeast, has been moved laterally across the landscape to its current position. Today, it faces challenges like high bank erosion, hoof shear, and sediment deposition. 🐮

Here we are collecting water level and flow rates in Mill Creek and its adjoining tributaries as a part of our stream restoration efforts. 📊

You’ve seen the beautiful headwaters of Mill Creek, now let’s take a closer look at the degraded banks found in the middle reaches of the stream. This erosion can be caused by:

💠 Deforestation

In this project, we’ll stabilize the banks, manage hydrology, improve buffers, and restore the stream to achieve ecological uplift. These conditions will be transformed into a thriving, balanced ecosystem and a restored Mill Creek. ✨🌳

Specifically, we hurt knowing that there has been catastrophic damage to Asheville in Buncombe County in Western North Carolina 💔 We are aware that surrounding communities outside of Asheville have also been severely damaged.

We have shared resources for organizations who are directly supplying aid to families and victims in need at this time.

Our mitigation projects tackle this issue firsthand. Our mitigation design plans ensure that cattle are excluded from waterways and have access to alternate water sources. This is to keep our waterways and streams protected from pollutants and decreased water quality downstream ⚠️
