Bonsai Mitigation Site
About
Bonsai Mitigation site is a riparian buffer mitigation and nutrient offset Site located in Edgecombe County approximately 7 miles northeast of Rocky Mount off of Battleboro-Leggett Road. The Nutrient Offset & Buffer Mitigation Plan (NOBMP) was submitted under the Bonsai Tar-Pamlico Umbrella Mitigation Banking Instrument (UMBI) to the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR) in 2024. The service area is designated as Tar-Pamlico River Basin HUC 03020101. The Site will cover approximately 22.8 acres and act as Phase I of a larger 133 acre project tract situated along the banks of Falling Run, a direct tributary of the Tar River. The Site will create and establish a riparian corridor to slow and filter surface runoff from the surrounding fields and improve terrestrial habitat onsite. An expected 444,808.376 ft2 of riparain buffer credits (RBC) will be generated by the proposed Site, as well as 48,683.571 lbs of nitrogen nutrient offset credits (NOC) and 3,135.597 lbs of phosphorus NOC.
